Meebo Competitors/Alternatives, A useful resource for

Postby mizerydearia on Sat Feb 10, 2007 11:33 am

This thread is meant as a summary of this dead thread where the OP was a guest and is unable to update their FP with important information discussed in the thread like a registered member can (such as myself)

I value meebo.com as one of the best solutions of its kind and am a valued customer of meebo (over the competitors listed below) by far, however, it may be useful to have a list of such competitors or similar services/features to keep track of so that meebo can implement better services to offer its customer base to keep the competitive edge and remain #1

Keep in mind this list may also be very useful if, for example, your school, company, library has blocked this (or other similar) sites whereas maybe one of the sites listed may not be blocked, and therefore you can use that site. However, it is also useful for those who wish to block all such sites where they feel communication is bad(tm). Keep in mind that duct tape (applicable to mouths and full bodies) is effective in preventing verbal and other methods of communication as well.

Please read this important article on the meeblog

Here is a thread on proxy sites

It's definately useful. I dont see anything wrong with spreading the word of other competitors.

Competition makes for a good product in the future. meebo is great already; but any new features are of course good ;)

And yea, some schools/firewalls have meebo blocked, so there's always an alternative.

On the flipside...with all the information here in 1 place, it makes it easy for those Administrators to quickly block everything :P

Yep, last line of my FP covers that idea already ^^

I came across another interesting site that uses Flash entirely. It seems interesting and cool, however, I haven't tried it out yet. It requires free registration.

http://6kbytes.com/

I'll add it to the list above also.

Update
I tried registering at 6kbytes.com and it seemed too simple. I simply provided a username and password and instantly the account was registered? After further testing, it didn't seem like anything worked.

I'll keep the site referenced here in this post for now and if it seems functional at a later time, I'll incorporate it into the list in FP
