Wii Meebo

Postby tanlaan on Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:54 pm

I know this has been brought up before, but I think that instead of aktering meebo.com or classic.meebo.com I dont see why you couldnt just make wii.meebo.com. This would just be a custom version of Meebo for the Wii. It wouldnt need to be drastically different *as people have said before* it would just be a nice thing for all Wii owners :D.

I don't think they'd even need to do this, just add some extra lines to the normal one, where it reads what your OS/browser is and if it's Nintendo Wii, then it adds the send buttons, and maybe changes the default size of text/windows/etc.

That's if they can fix that keyboard disappearing thing.

Just a quick post for you all.

Meebo is for computers. If the dev team has any plans to do Meebo for PSP/Phones/Mobile devices/Wii it is on the bottom of the list. This has been requested before. But, thanks for suggesting it.

The best thing is not to add it to the masses of code in the default, computer version.

What I would see as the best thing is if the User Agent is detected as Opera for Wii then it just redirects to wii.meebo.com, where a version that is made for Wii users only.

This version (IMO) does not necessarily need to be much better than the current meebo.com default. All I see it needing is a simple Login scheme, send button and single-click for all (usually) double-click actions.

After reading through all the wii/meebo threads and the only official reply being we ain't bothered about providing a send button for wii. Even tho wii owners are predominantly teens who are always connected to there messengers, and your predominant target audience. Then I have had to go to a rival site who does provide a send button and works well on wii, and which I have posted on a number of wii/gaming forums as people are looking for this and everyone is saying 'Don't bother with meebo it doesn't support wii'. I do feel that you are missing out as with windows live messenger arriving on the xbox 360 in May and other sites working on the wii. Then this site is going to miss out on a good amount of new traffic. People, especially teens, want to be connecting to friends in new ways, and if they can do it in there own front rooms they will do it, rather than being connected to there computers all day.

Good Luck

I'm sorry, I'm going to have to agree with ShadowsFall1978 and master5o1 on this one, and I don't even own a WII! As a software developer myself, its ALWAYS a great idea to look at new upcoming platforms which your product could benefit from.

The WII, or the PS3 are impressive consoles, which granted do not hold the best web browser in the world on them, however does open up a great opportunity to support them.

As ShadowFall1978 as pointed out, MILLIONS of people are purchasing these consoles, which aside the fact that its primary function is to play games, majority of them are also using it as a form of communication to friends and family.

Now what you said Weakoz was somewhat a very pig headed thing to say. These consoles are not like the mobile devices, which GOD knows why you would ever want to communicate in that fashion I don't know. These consoles, even though hold limited functionality, can be very much like a normal computer in terms of internet browsing. For you to say that meebo is just for computers, aren't you removing the right to use "Instant messaging everywhere" then within your tag line?

By supporting them, you would not only gain the opportunity to have millions more people use your services, you could also use it as a selling point: Now supporting the new gen gaming consoles!

If that is your policy I will no longer be using your product, nor will I continue telling people about it. (I work in a hotel that has computers in every room, and when the business clients ask if we have (Whatever IM installed) I recommend Meebo.

Your pigheaded response "Wii is on the bottom of the list" is disgusting, I had more respect for this company, they seemed so interested in making new things and making the user experience better from reading their blog posts. Now i know its not really true.

I'm disgusted that their is still no official reply from Meebo about this matter.. Do they actually care about their 'customers'?

I am now on another wii supported site and just thought I would pop back to see if any progress had been made. Its a shame to see no-one has replied further, considering this has had over 950 views. Ok I know they are not individual but even if a quarter of these were individual its still a lot more people they could have added to their site just by adding a send button. Looks like a rival site is getting your traffic and I know their is a lot of buzz on forums about the fact that it is workable on the wii.

This product is free, so we can't really complain. Theres other browsers I use on my Wii. For example I was looking through google and typed in "msn school work" and found < www.msgweb.nl/en/MSN_Tools/MSN_at_school > for my msn. It works well with the Wii. I don't use aim that often but I'm sure you can do the same thing. For school I use meebo, but for the Wii, find somewhere else to support it.

Can we really rally on a free website?

I was just about to suggest that. I use it with my iPod Touch and it does what I need it to do, send and receive messages.
